Comparison

Sapadere Canyon vs Dim Cave: which one, or both?

One is a gorge you walk through above a cold river; the other is a cave in the side of a green valley with a river to eat lunch over. They are not rivals — they are the two halves of the same day.

The short answer

If you have one day and want the water, the walkway and the waterfalls, take the canyon tour. If you want the canyon in the morning and a second, gentler valley in the afternoon — lunch on platforms over the Dim River and the option of Dim Cave — take the canyon and Dim River tour. Nobody has to choose the cave over the canyon; the combined day exists precisely so you don't.

Nature and water

Sapadere is the canyon: pale limestone walls up to about 400 m, a walkway of about 750 m above a spring-fed river, cascades and turquoise pools. The Dim River valley is broader and greener, a cold river under plane trees with restaurants built out over it. The cave is inside the valley side, lit, cool and still.

Walking

The canyon asks for about 750 m each way on a handrailed walkway with steps. Dim Cave asks for a walk on a lit path inside the rock; the river platforms ask for nothing. A guest who finds the walkway hard will find the afternoon easy.

Swimming

Swimming is a canyon thing — the pools beneath the falls, cold all year, optional. At the Dim River you sit with your feet in the water at lunch rather than swim from the platform. There is no swimming in a cave.

Families

Both are family days. Children love the walkway and the falls; they love a cave with coloured light nearly as much, and a lunch with the river under the table most of all. Pushchairs are a problem in the canyon and no problem on the platforms.

Photographs

The canyon gives the photograph of the holiday: turquoise water, pale rock, a waterfall. The cave gives a darker, closer frame that rewards a steady hand. The river platforms give the lunch picture everyone sends home.

Time and cost

The canyon tour is about 7 hours door to door at €33 per adult; the canyon and Dim River tour about 8 hours at €40, with the canyon ticket, lunch, guide and transfer included on both. The Dim Cave ticket is optional and paid locally on the combined day; the price page has every figure.
